Spa Village pretreatment rituals are an integral part of the entire spa experience, each unique to the property in which it resides. The Segara Giri, preludes every treatment at Spa Village Resort Tembok, Bali. Segara means Ocean and Giri means Mountain in the Balinese language. Spa Village Tembok rests rest between the mountain and the ocean. The black volcanic sand of the beach is created between the interaction of these two powerful forces of nature. Every treatment begins by cleansing your feet in the black sand. In Balinese belief, the feet acts as a conduit between the energy of the earth and the self, therefore washing the feet is considered a way of purifying the self of any negativity that may rise from the earth. Capturing the essence of Balinese culture, through its gentle spirituality that infuses the land this pre-treatment ritual is a perfect prelude to any treatment.

For those who seek a deeper understanding of Balinese healing culture the Spa Village Academy has been established. Here they offer insight into the healing traditions of this unique island. The core material and lessons at Spa Village Academy are inspired by a Balinese healer from the nearby village of Tembok.
This programme includes daily classes in the philosophy and practice of the Balinese healing arts. Students will receive training in Balinese massage techniques and boreh (body scrub) and an introduction into Jamu (herbal remedies). The Spa Village Academy offers a seven day, six night package with five days of instruction that culminates with a completion celebration and Spa Village Academy certificate. Private two hour sessions can also be arranged for a brief introduction to Balinese massage.
